Our Story
About the Potters
Pottery has played a significant part in my (Ken’s) life since I was first introduced to the wheel during my college years. That potter’s name was Wally.
My dad encouraged my growth as a potter by building me a kick wheel. It was awesome and I learned a lot on it! I feel towards it like others feel about their 1st car. From those days, I learned about pottery making by going to Marshall Pottery and asking questions. I also read books and magazines.
My dad’s kick wheel lasted about 5 years and as a young husband, I sold Ann on a huge investment of getting an electric wheel. “We’ll never have to buy a gift again! I’ll just make them!” She fell for it and we saved up for a wheel! More recently I’ve learned a lot from potter friends and, of course, by watching YouTube!
I enjoy the challenge of making both kitchenware and decorative pieces. When I’m caught up on what I have to make, my go-to pieces are the coffee cup and bowl. Each of these have endless varieties! They are also great sellers because who doesn’t need a unique coffee cup?
Making pottery is a joy, but it does my heart good to share my joy with others! It seems the time is right to take what we do to others. We are growing into another phase.
We have experience working with students of various skill levels, from beginners to those with moderate skills. We enjoy sharing the art and seeing students grow and develop as they discover what they can achieve. Because we want to share our pottery passion with more people, we have recently built the ‘Mud Room”. We invite you to experience this lost art with us.
Beginning in May, we will begin hosting a Pottery night on Tuesdays and Thursday night from 6-8pm.
*add a meal to your class for $15.00 and Ann will happily cook whatever your favorite food may be.
